Bakuriani is one of the most attractive flying sites in Georgia. It has been assessed by the German hang gliding association (DHV), which certified it as a suitable training ground for paragliding schools. The microclimate apparently is very favorable. The specific launch site they examined was Kokhtagora, literally pretty mountain, the mountain station of the chairlift.
Flights are possible in many different directions, with tentative cross-country flights already having been undertaken by tandem pilots.
Further behind Kokhtagora, to the South of Bakuriani, there are more peaks, some of them going up to about 3000 meters, which can be accessed by driving the mountain road to Tsalka (end of April to November). This area is immensely attractive, with breath-taking views and offering diverse possibilities once you're beyond the pass. We have started to fly there, around Tabatskuri, which also has a great lake.
Launch sites are easy to approach, since you can drive up many of the hillsides. There are some good tracks, since the pipeline workers working in the area keep the roads in shape.
