Georgian Sites

There are three sites close to Tbilisi. One is close to Rustavi, the other is to the northeast of the Tbilisi Sea. The third is in Kaspi, on the road to Gori. All the sites can be useful for dynamic flying if the wind is right. Thermal flying is a bit limited, as is the actual altitude. Rustavi can be flown whichever way the wind goes, Tbilisi Sea is best flown when the wind comes from the South, or Southeast. Kaspi is best with North, Northeast.

Alpine conditions can be found in Bakuriani and Gudauri. Gudauri, in particular, is an attractive location but also one that is fairly challenging to fly in, particularly in summer, since it is subject to various winds.

Kakheti, Samstke Javakheti, Racha and Svaneti may be attractive to fly in, but so far they have not been explored systematically. The same is true for Abkhazia, where the political situation currently is an obstacle to tourism. Svaneti should not be entered without extensive prior security arrangements. We have not yet flown in Azerbaijan, but have had a closer look at the region north of Baku.

We are attempting to identify further locations for flying. Let us know if you can add to our recommendations.

In particular, we are also trying to use this website to exchange information about possibilities and hazards. We plan to put them into database format.
